The Course
The word was chosen as the club's name on 4 August 1925. Quilchena spent its first three decades in Vancouver, with plans for a second nine underway inside a year of opening. Then it lost the ground under it: in 1953 the leased land was slated for subdivision and the club was told its leases would not be renewed past 31 December.
It moved to Richmond and started again. The first directors' meeting on the new site was held on 4 September 1956, and Desmond Muirhead was retained to design and lay out the course. A single-storey clubhouse went up in 1959 and gained a second level in 1968 after some lean years. The club sits on 120 acres with the Coast Mountains behind it.
Eight of the 18 holes bend more than 18 yards off the straight line. The map carries 66 bunkers. Water crosses the line of play on the 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th.
With water across the line of play on ten holes, the gap between the right club and the obvious one is at its widest.
