The Course

Surrey opened for play on 8 July 1971, with the clubhouse following in 1972. The main course runs past 6,800 yards from the blue tees, 6,400 from the whites and 5,900 from the reds, through a mix of trees, water and sand.

In 1988 the club added a second course to answer a need it had noticed: somewhere for new players, juniors and seniors to play that was not 6,800 yards. The North Nine measured 1,983 yards over five par 3s, three par 4s and a par 5. It was renamed the Willows Nine in 2001 after the trees that define it, and it sits on 63 acres of its own.

The clubhouse was rebuilt out from 6,296 square feet in 1994, and REVS Entertainment Group bought the club in April 2015.

From our map of Surrey Golf Club

Across the holes we have mapped, the fairway measures a median 35 yards wide where a tee shot lands, and pinches to 25 at its narrowest. Eight of the 12 holes bend more than 18 yards off the straight line. The map carries 38 bunkers. Water crosses the line of play on the 5th, 14th, 15th and 16th.

With water across the line of play on five holes, the gap between the right club and the obvious one is at its widest. Yards simulates each of those tee shots for your handicap and your own carry distances, then names the target that loses fewest strokes. Holes 1 and 2 are open to anyone, which here means a 406-yard par 4 and a 459-yard par 4.
