Tobiano Golf Course is a par-72 public course in British Columbia, playing 7,367 yards from the TOUR tees with a rating of 75.3 and slope of 134. Thirteen of its eighteen holes bend, the most of any course we have mapped in the province.
The Course
Thomas McBroom put Tobiano on a plateau above Kamloops Lake in 2007, in country that looks nothing like the coast: bunchgrass, sage, rock, and thirty kilometres of lake below you. SCOREGolf named it the best new course in Canada the following year and still had it 26th in the country in 2022. Golf Digest ranked it 90th outside the United States.
It is the third McBroom course in British Columbia we have mapped, after Langara in 1994 and Fraserview in 1998, and the only one where the land itself was worth this much drama.
7,367 yards from the Tour tees, and a routing that follows the edges of the plateau instead of cutting across them. That is where the bending comes from, and it is why the yardage on the card and the club in your hand keep disagreeing.
Across the holes we have mapped, the fairway measures a median 36 yards wide where a tee shot lands, and pinches to 22 at its narrowest. Thirteen of the 18 holes bend more than 18 yards off the straight line. The map carries 86 bunkers. Water crosses the line of play on the 13th.
The bunkering here is set for a driver, 19 of them inside the driving zone. Yards checks whether laying back off them beats carrying them, hole by hole, for your handicap, then names the target that loses fewest strokes. Holes 1 and 2 are open to anyone, which here means a 576-yard par 5 and a 350-yard par 4.
Worth knowing before you go

- Semi-arid grassland, so it plays firm and fast in a way almost nothing on the coast does.
